Meet Dr. Hamilton

Patients and friends have asked me how I came to be a chiropractor. I didn’t grow up using chiropractic. In fact, except for my mother being treated for injuries she received in a car wreck, I knew very little about what a chiropractor did.

I became familiar with chiropractic in my early twenties. Back then I was finishing college and thinking about what to do with my life. I had “shadowed” many different professionals, and was at an impasse. A friend knew that I liked being around people, and had some interest in exercise and health. He said that his dad was a chiropractor and loved what he did. The more he talked about the people his dad had helped, the more interested I became. Funny, though, that I didn’t think about it helping my own life.

I was getting married soon and my soon-to-be wife and I felt that we were basically healthy people who suffered only “normal” ailments. For my wife, her headaches ruled our lives. What she called “regular” headaches occurred every week. For one day a week she would have to take headache pills throughout the day just to survive. We could still go out and do things, but she usually didn’t have much fun; she was just “getting through.” As if this wasn’t enough, once a month she would get a headache so severe that our day was finished. We would have to stop whatever we were doing and go home so that she could take pain pills and try to “sleep it off.”

For myself, I could never breathe through my nose because of chronic sinus congestion. Growing up I had tried several prescription and over-the-counter medications, but they never helped. I figured that my lot in life was to just live with it.

One day when I was shadowing a colleague, he asked me if I had ever been adjusted. I told him that I hadn’t, but that my back bothered me a little, so it might do some good. “You sound real congested, too,” he told me, “We’ll try to help clear that up.” What? Sure enough, after about three weeks, I could breathe through my nose again. For me, that was amazing! Soon after, he treated my wife as well. Although she still gets an occasional headache, they are nothing like what they had been. The best part though, is that we have our lives back.

That made our decision for us. Once I experienced the changes chiropractic made in our lives, I knew that was how I wanted to help others. Soon thereafter, I enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic, the profession’s oldest chiropractic college.

Upon graduation, Michelle and I looked through Tennessee for a location to practice. Once we visited Greeneville, my wife and I knew we were at the right place. People made us feel welcome and a part of the community. We now have three children and feel privileged to be able to raise them here, “at home.”
